Summary:
The general objective of this study is to analyze the situation of women in mixed prisons and how sexism and gender-based violence previously experienced can affect them. Therefore, it seeks to understand the specific conditions in which women find themselves within these centers. To this end, 78 women serving custodial sentences in prison in mixed centres, aged between 23 and 63, have participated. In a second phase of research, interviews were conducted with women, some of these women, specifically, a total of 33, to investigate their perceptions of sexism and gender-based discrimination experienced both during prison life and in relevant previous moments with respect to their life in general and criminal trajectory.
