Project: The female drug-dependent inmate in prison

Goals of the project:


FIADYS has received a grant from the Government Delegation for the National Plan on Drugs (https://pnsd.sanidad.gob.es/). This study will focus on “Female Drug-Dependent Inmates in Prison: Identifying Barriers to Their Treatment Access and Reviewing the Treatment Program from a Gender Perspective.”

The main objective is to understand the differential profile of female drug-dependent inmates in prison. To achieve this, the following specific objectives are proposed:

  1. Analyze the characteristics, risk factors, vulnerability factors, motivation for drug use, as well as gender differences among female drug users in prison.
  2. Describe the barriers to accessing treatment for women in prison.
  3. Understand the difficulties in adhering to treatment for women in prison.
  4. Propose a gender-sensitive review of the drug-dependent inmate treatment program based on the results of this study.”
